Whitewater River Classifications CLASS I-V Please note that the water classifications on our trips may vary due to changes in water levels. Be sure that you are booking the appropriate trip for EVERYONE in your group. Class I: Easy - Waves small, passages clear, with no serious obstacles. Class II: Moderate - Rapids of little difficulty, moderate waves with clear passages. Class III: Difficult - Numerous waves that are sometimes irregular; rocks; rapids with narrow but clear passages. Class IV: Very Difficult - Long rapids; waves are powerful and irregular; precise and powerful maneuvering is required. Class V: Extremely Difficult - Somewhat continuous, long and violent rapids, extremely obstructed channels; big drops; steep gradient; previous paddling experience is recommended.
